Blue Krewe received seed money and other assistance from the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Blue Krewe’s board president is Dr. Corey Hebert. Its leadership includes Favre; Coats; former deputy mayor and current GNOF CEO Andy Kopplin; Destinie Hammond, the communications manager for the North American Bikeshare Association and a previous marketing manager at Blue Bikes; and Emilie Bahr, a writer and urban planner. All live in the New Orleans area.

In the News: The Times-Picayune and The Advocate to launch statewide investigative unit

The 3-year, $1.5 million effort will be supported by philanthropic donations to the Louisiana Investigative Journalism Fund, which will be administered by the Greater New Orleans Foundation. It is part of an emerging business model in which independently owned newspapers partner with community foundations to solicit tax-deductible donations. The model grew out of the need for legacy news organizations to find ways to maintain their reporting strength in a punishing business environment.

Our Impact & Leadership in the 2020 Disaster Season

While Southeast Louisiana is no stranger to disasters, the volume of adversities in 2020 has tested us all. However, community foundations like GNOF are uniquely positioned to help communities tackle shared challenges like respond quickly and effectively to disasters. With the partnership of generous individual, corporate, and philanthropic donors, we have made impactful grantmaking, provided critical technical support to nonprofits, elevated important issues in the public discourse, and collaborated with government and business leaders to solve critical challenges in the midst of the disasters. The Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Disaster Response and Restoration Strategy Fund and supporting initiatives ensure Southeast Louisiana and other Gulf Coast communities are stronger when confronted with disasters. Our disaster grantmaking is grounded in equity, sustainability, resiliency, and community engagement.

In the News: GNOF Awards $100,000 Grant to DCHC for COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program

NEW ORLEANS, LA – DePaul Community Health Centers (DCHC) recently received a $100,000 grant from the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s (GNOF) Response and Restoration Fund to conduct COVID-19 virus rapid testing for both patients and staff. Dr. Michael G. Griffin, President and CEO of DCHC, believes that GNOF’s financial support is timely.
