Nonprofit Preparedness: Planning for Continued Operations after Multiple Hazards

The best time to plan your organization’s disaster response and revisit your organization’s disaster response policies and plans is when you are not experiencing an active disaster. Nonprofit leaders and their teams must remain prepared for a variety of operational challenges, such as extreme weather events, heat risk, flooding, and cyber attacks. Is your organization ready to meet the needs of your teams, your organizational partners, and the communities you serve during the next environmental, weather-related, or technological challenge?  

The Greater New Orleans Foundation is excited to offer a half-day workshop to support nonprofit preparedness and help organizations minimize operational and service interruptions due to disasters. This workshop will provide nonprofit leaders, staff, and stakeholders with an update on regional disaster response planning efforts at the city, regional, and state levels; emerging tools and trends in emergency response; expert perspectives on how the nonprofit sector can best prepare for current and future threats; and dedicated time to begin to develop or update their organization’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).

During the session, attendees will hear from a range of trusted national and regional leaders on disaster preparedness, emergency management, and disaster response data. Attendees will hear from Andrew Holbein, Vice President of Data and Resource Development at VIA LINK and President of Louisiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (LAVOAD). Andrew will present a new disaster data project, led by VIA LINK and , that provides nonprofits with historical and real-time data on community needs and available resources during an active disaster event. Additional session presenters include representatives from the New Orleans Office of Coordination and Emergency Management

The Foundation is also thrilled to announce that we will be joined by Vince Davis, CEO and Founder of Preparedness Matters and advisor to the Black Resilience Network, which partners with community organizers and organizations on the ground before and after disasters through community hubs and Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs). Vince has more than 35 years of emergency response management — supporting nonprofits, government, and corporate entities in disaster planning, emergency management, crisis management, business continuity, and community resilience.
