Live Oak Wilderness Camp wins 2017 Impact 100 grant
(New Orleans, LA | November 8, 2017) – Impact 100, a women’s giving circle hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, and sponsored by Fidelity Bank, announced today that its $100,000 transformative grant will be awarded this year to Live Oak Wilderness Camp, an innovative summer camp that brings together a diverse group of talented New Orleans kids through the fun, friendship, and leadership development found at sleep-away camp.
“We are so grateful to the women of Impact 100,” said Jack Carey, executive director of Live Oak Wilderness Camp. “Summer camp can be a transformational experience for a child, and with this grant, we will be able to give scholarships to an additional 100 kids from the New Orleans area.”
Live Oak campers are selected from 70 public and private schools across New Orleans, and at camp they receive coaching and development from the team of counselors drawn from Teach For America, Teach NOLA, and City Year. Then, campers continue to spend time with their diverse Live Oak community by participating in ongoing programming that Live Oak offers throughout the school year.
The Impact 100 members heard presentations from four nonprofits representing four categories: Ellis Marsalis Center for Music (arts & culture); Live Oak Wilderness Camp (education & youth development); Gulf Restoration Network (environment); and, Family Service of Greater New Orleans (health & social services). The three runners-up will each receive $19,000.
“The Greater New Orleans Foundation is proud to host this women’s giving circle,” said Andy Kopplin, Greater New Orleans Foundation president and CEO. “By pooling their resources, the 157 Impact 100 members are able to give large, transformative grants to the four deserving nonprofits.”
