“Lighting Up the Scoreboard”
Officials from St. Bernard Parish Government and the St. Bernard Community Foundation gathered to celebrate the new scoreboard for the Hannan All-Sports Complex. This initiative, which was done in partnership with Domino Sugar is important because it contributes yet another tangible sign of recovery to St. Bernard.
David Boehlke, Healthy Neighborhoods
Creator of “Healthy Neighborhoods” David Boehlke was awarded a grant to perform an assessment of St. Bernard parish. The Healthy Neighborhoods movement takes the assets-based approach on building communities; identifies existing community resources and builds a revitalization strategy around them.
St. Bernard Parish Government
A grant was awarded to the government of St. Bernard Parish to allow the parish to hire a national leader in planning and public policy to rewrite its zoning regulations in an effort to simplify the rebuilding process for both officials and private developers.
St. Bernard Civic Associations
The St. Bernard Community Foundation made a grant to fund several block-building, enhancement and leadership development projects among neighborhood groups scattered in Arabi, Chalmette and Violet.
David Boehlke, Rebuilding Great Neighborhoods
International community development expert, David Boehlke, led a workshop titled “Rebuilding Great Neighborhoods” in St. Bernard last Saturday with leaders from several St. Bernard neighborhood associations.
