Woodlands Trail and Park
The Plaquemines Community Foundation recently awarded a grant to the Woodlands Tail and Park’s Pilot Ecosystem Restoration Project for a detailed pre-treatment assessment at Woodlands Trail and Park conducted by Dr. Sean Anderson, California State University and John Lambrinos, Oregon State University. These two professors, who have been working at the Woodlands Trail and Park since Hurricane Katrina, conducted a detailed assessment that we be used to evaluate effectiveness of methods to remove invasive species and increase native trees.
Southeast Louisiana Fisheries Assistance Center
A grant was given to help create the Southeast Louisiana Fisheries Assistance Center to provide commercial fishermen with a clearing house from which they can receive free business planning, financial assistance, fishing licenses, etc.
Plaquemines Parish School System
A grant was awarded to the parish school system to cover a portion of the costs of a summer program for youth in grades 1 through 6 residing in the extreme southern portion of the parish, from West Point a la Hache to Venice.
Plaquemines Parish Economic Development and Tourism Department
The Plaquemines Parish Economic Development and Tourism Department received a grant to fund an alternative crop project by the LSU Agricultural Center, testing the viability of growing blueberries and peaches in Plaquemines Parish.
Plaquemines Parish School System
The PCF made a grant to the Plaquemines Parish School System to send 100 4th grade students to two separate, 3-day sessions of the Earthkeepers Program run by Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.).
