Can I get money from The Greater New Orleans Foundation for personal use such as starting a business or for a dire personal need?


The Greater New Orleans Foundation does not make grants or loans to individuals.  As a community foundation, it is designed to serve the charitable and educational needs of nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations.

What are the eligibility requirements for receiving a grant from The Greater New Orleans Foundation?

Grants are made to nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service.  Programs considered for support are generally addressing current community issues in the Greater New Orleans region.


How do I apply for a grant from The Greater New Orleans Foundation?


Each grantmaking fund is governed by different grantmaking priorities, criteria and guidelines.  Specific information on each of these funds can be found under Competitive Grant Opportunites.  If you have any questions, you may call the Foundation and speak with a Program Officer.  


How do I request a grant from a donor advised fund?


Grants from donor advised funds are made upon the recommendation of the funds' advisors.  Only those funds listed under Competitive Grant Opportunities accept grant applications through The Greater New Orleans Foundation.


Does The Greater New Orleans Foundation offer grant writing assistance?


The Foundation does not offer grant writing assistance.  Requests for grant writing and other types of technical assistance are referred to the Center for Nonprofit Resources, which offers a number of services for not-for-profit groups. The Center can be reached at (504) 483-8080.


Where should I send a completed proposal?


Completed proposals must be received at the Foundation's office by the deadline indicated in the application guidelines.  Applications should be mailed or hand delivered to:

Once an application is received by the Foundation, what is the process and how long does it take to receive funding from The Greater New Orleans Foundation?

 

·      Applicants are notified that the proposal has been received.

·      Applications are reviewed by program staff for completeness and clarity.

·      Any additional information needed is requested from the applicant.

·      Applications are reviewed by the appropriate grantmaking committee.

·      Grant recommendations are submitted to the GNOF Board of Trustees for final action.

·      Applicants are notified of the Board's decisions by mail.

 

Depending on the grantmaking fund, the entire process takes from 60 to 90 days.
