GRANTS

The Greater New Orleans Foundation administers several different types of funds established by many donors. These funds distribute grants in a number of ways:

  • Many funds are donor advised, meaning that a donor can periodically advise on grants to be made from their charitable fund. Advisors to donor advised funds at GNOF submit grant recommendations for nonprofit projects that are important to them. These recommendations are reviewed by staff to determine that they are for 501(c)(3) organizations and meet other basic criteria, then are submitted to the GNOF Board of Trustees for final approval before distribution. Except as listed under Competitive Grant Opportunities, grant seekers cannot apply to GNOF for grants from donor advised funds.
  • Some funds are designated to support a specific organization. Grant seekers cannot apply to these funds for grants.
  • A number of funds have competitive grant processes that nonprofits can apply to for grants. Most of these provide support in the Greater New Orleans region only, so please read online guidelines carefully. For a complete listing see Competitive Grant Opportunities.
