New Funding Opportunity: Pratt-Stanton Manor Fund Now Accepting Grant Applications

June 4, 2013

June 4, 2013 | Orleans, LA – For over forty years, Pratt-Stanton Manor was an elegant residence for the elderly in New Orleans. The retirement community provided apartment homes in a loving and caring environment in an historic building on St. Charles Avenue. In 2008, the doors officially closed, the building was sold, and proceeds from the sale of the building helped to create the Pratt-Stanton Manor Fund administered by the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

“The legacy of Pratt-Stanton Manor continues,” said William Gahagan, spokesperson for the Fund. “We’re truly honored that we’ll be able to provide assistance to our community’s elderly with assets from the institution.” Grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations helping adults to live dignified, meaningful, and independent lives within the Greater New Orleans area.

“A community foundation is the perfect vehicle for protecting an institution’s legacy and its longevity,” said Albert Ruesga, president and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation. This year is the first year of many years that grants will be awarded from the Fund.

Grants from the Pratt-Stanton Manor Fund will help to serve older adults, especially those who fall below the region’s median income level. “Recent trends show there is an increase of adults 65 and over who fall below the poverty line,” said Richard Martinez, a foundation program officer for the who is working closely with Pratt-Stanton Manor representatives to help craft the guidelines. Grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations that provide such basic needs such as food, housing, long-term care, and daily activities for our community’s most frail.

“It’s nice to know the giving continues because Pratt-Stanton Manor was such a loving community for so many New Orleans residents,” said Gahagan.

The deadline to apply for a grant from the Pratt-Stanton Manor Fund is June 15, 2013. The application can be accessed online at dev.gnof.org/recieve.  Applications are also available at the Greater New Orleans Foundation offices, 1055 St. Charles Avenue, Ste. 100, New Orleans, LA  70130 or by calling 504.598.4663.
