Bayou Region sets goal of $50,000 from 1,100 gifts
Thibodaux, LA (February 24, 2016) – The Bayou Community Foundation (BCF), Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF), mayor of Thibodaux, and the parish presidents of Lafource and Terrebonne, as well as representatives from local nonprofit organizations kicked off the countdown to the May 3rd GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region at a news conference in Thibodaux today.
Last year, GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region raised $39,333 in online donations from 900 gifts for 40 nonprofit organizations. This year, the goals for GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region are to raise $50,000 from 1,100 gifts for 50 nonprofit organizations.
“Lafourche Parish is pleased to support GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region on May 3rd, and we invite all our residents to make online donations to our local nonprofits on this special day of giving,” said Lafourche Parish President James “Jimmy” Cantrelle. “ Our local nonprofit organizations are so important to the health and stability of our community. From health care to education, their work helps meet critical needs of our residents and make our Bayou Region a great place to call home.”
“The Bayou Community Foundation is committed to supporting the work of our nonprofits to meet the critical needs of our Bayou Region and we are delighted to once again coordinate a ‘GiveBayou’ campaign,” said BCF Chairman Stephen Peltier. “With a donation as little as $10, everyone can be a philanthropist May 3 on GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region.”
“This is the one day we come together to give as one,” said Albert Ruesga, president & CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation and administer of the regional giving day. “Together we’re going to ignite the generosity of the region and raise an astonishing $4.5 million for nonprofits throughout our area, including the Bayou Region. We applaud the generous spirit and enthusiastic support of local residents for GiveNOLA for the Bayou Region. Their efforts will make the day a success.”
BCF and Bayou Region nonprofits are planning GiveBayou giving celebrations sponsored by Spahr’s Seafood in Thibodaux and Houma on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm with music, food and nonprofit booths. In addition, companies, family foundations, and individuals are invited to show their support for GiveBayou and all participating nonprofits before May 3 by contributing to the Al Danos, Jr. Memorial Lagniappe Fund. Managed by BCF, the Al Danos, Jr. Memorial Lagniappe Fund will raise money to be shared by all Bayou Region nonprofits participating in GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region. The Courier/Daily Comet are media sponsors for the GiveBayou campaign.
GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region is part of GiveNOLA Day, which is tied to a national event called Give Local America where community foundations across America ask their communities to give back on May 3, 2016. In its inaugural year, GiveNOLA Day shattered all goals and raised an astonishing $2.2 million; last year’s GiveNOLA Day resulted in $4 million; GNOF’s goal for the third year is to raise $4.5 million.
All donations made through www.givenola.org on May 3, 2016 go directly to the participating nonprofits designated by donors themselves. These nonprofits work on a broad range of issues: arts & culture, animals, community improvement, education, environment, health, housing, human services, public safety & crime, and youth development. GNOF and BCF do not collect any fees from contributions in order for the nonprofit organizations to receive the maximum benefit.
Any 501(c)(3) organization located in and serving GNOF’s 13-parish region is welcome to participate in GiveNOLA Day, and nonprofits in Lafourche, Terrebonne, and Grand Isle will also be included in the GiveNOLA Day for the Bayou Region campaign. The deadline for nonprofits to register is Tuesday, March 1, 2016.
