Foundation Takes Leadership Role in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes

The two Louisiana parishes hit hardes by Hurricane Katrina were St. Bernard and Plaquemines. In response to the resulting needs of these rural parishes, GNOF in 2006 launched and funded community foundations in each locale. The boards of these entities are composed entirely of local leaders who are best positioned to make the most effective philanthropic impact in their respective geographic areas. The regional outreach program is supporting both groups as they work to focus their grantmaking efforts and to leverage their assets in partnership with private and national sources.

Heading up the affiliates is economic expert Marco Cocito-Monoc. Born in Italy and educated at the University of Cambridge in England, Cocito-Monoc may not look or sound like most of the folks in St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes, but his passion for the area is obvious.
