Greater New Orleans Foundation, Shell Norco Award $227,905 in St. Charles Parish Grants

New Orleans, LA (August 20, 2019) – At the beginning of this month, the Greater New Orleans Foundation joined Shell Norco and Community Leaders at the 2019 Grant Celebration Banquet of the Norco Economic Development Fund and Norco Community Fund. Both funds were created by Shell Norco to improve Norco and St. Charles Parish. The event, held at the Ormond Plantation, brought together the 2019 grant cycle recipients who were awarded grants totaling $227,905.

The Norco Community Fund (NCF) is a Greater New Orleans Foundation Donor Advised Fund (DAF) that was started in 2001 by Shell to improve the quality of life of people in Norco and during that time has made 118 grants totaling $764,000. The 2019 cycle granted $57,598. The 2019 recipients included:

  • American Legion Spillway Post 195 awarded $4,221
  • First Baptist Church of Norco awarded $5,000
  • Knights of Columbus Red Church Council 3634 awarded $10,000
  • Norco Civic Association awarded $7,000
  • Norco Elementary awarded $14,000
  • River Region Ballet, Inc. awarded $3,000
  • River Region Drama Guild, Inc. awarded $2,500
  • River Road Historical Society awarded $2,377
  • Sacred Heart of Jesus Church awarded $5,000
  • Special Olympics Louisiana, Inc. awarded $2,000
  • Charles Public School Foundation awarded $2,500

The Norco Economic Development Foundation (NEDF) is a Greater New Orleans Foundation Donor Advised Fund (DAF) that was formed in 2003 as a result of a five million dollar gift to the Norco community by Shell Norco and Motiva. Its purpose is to maintain a community-based organization that supports the future community/economic development needs of Norco and St. Charles Parish. This fund’s mission is to address social and economic issues at the local level in a manner that increases the capacity of the community. The NEDF provides leadership and vision in identifying community needs and in creating sustainable solutions to meet those needs. NEDF, in total, has made 56 grants totaling $2.2 million. The 2019 cycle granted $170,307. The 2019 recipients included:

  • Norco Civic Association awarded $60,940
  • The River Parishes Community Development Corporation awarded $15,000
  • River Road Historical Society awarded $78,367
  • Charles Public School Foundation awarded $5,000
  • Charles Senior Citizens Club awarded $5,000
