New Orleans, LA (February 1, 2018) – Today, the Greater New Orleans Foundation officially announced that the fifth annual GiveNOLA Day will take place on May 1, 2018 from 12AM – 11:59 PM. The announcement took place at the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Center of Philanthropy at 919 St. Charles Avenue where Mardi Gras Indians celebrated along with area nonprofits and civic leaders.

“Let’s all get ready to give! On May 1st, we will have the opportunity to come together as a community to support our incredible nonprofits who work to improve the quality of life for us all,” said Greater New Orleans Foundation President and CEO Andy Kopplin. “We have a culture of giving in the greater New Orleans region and the generosity of our people is astounding. Because the minimum donation for GiveNOLA Day is $10, it’s a day when everyone can be a philanthropist and we can collectively raise millions.”

In the past four years, GiveNOLA Day, which is a community-wide, 24-hour online giving day, has raised more than $15 million for regional nonprofits. Last year alone, the giving day raised an astonishing $4.9 million. This year, the Greater New Orleans Foundation hopes to raise at least $5 million from 40,000 donations for more than 700 local nonprofits.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said, “For the fifth year, we are proud to stand with the Greater New Orleans Foundation to continue to make an impact in the non-profit community across the region through GiveNOLA Day. With the help of a number of incredible non-profit organizations, we have been able to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina and tackle some of the City’s biggest challenges. In New Orleans, we understand the true strength of the philanthropic community. As we approach the City’s 300th anniversary, we look forward to even greater success with GiveNOLA Day and continuing to work with our non-profit community to create the city of our dreams.”

New last year, GiveNOLA Fest also took place on GiveNOLA Day as a way to celebrate giving. Back by popular demand, the second annual GiveNOLA Fest will take place during the evening of May 1, 2018. In true New Orleans tradition, there will be live music and New Orleans food and drink from a myriad of different restaurants. The festival is free, and a portion of proceeds from the food and beverage vendors will benefit the GiveNOLA Day “Lagniappe Fund,” a pool of incentive dollars raised by sponsors that will be proportionally shared with every participating nonprofit at the end of GiveNOLA Day.

All donations made on the GiveNOLA.org website go directly to participating nonprofits working on a broad range of issues: arts & culture, animals, community improvement, education, environment, health, housing, human rights, human services, public safety & crime, and youth development. The Greater New Orleans Foundation does not collect any fees from contributions so that participating nonprofit organizations receive the maximum benefit of donations.

“We’re excited to continue our commitment to GiveNOLA Day and to help lift up and support the incredible array of nonprofits that improve our city and region, doing everything from feeding our hungry – to sheltering our homeless – to promoting the arts,” said Charles Rice, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans, the GiveNOLA Day presenting sponsor.

“Baptist Community Ministries values its partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Working together with GNOF and other local philanthropic organizations, we can make a difference meeting the needs of the community we serve,” said Charles Beasley, president and CEO of Baptist Community Ministries, the GiveNOLA Day signature sponsor.

“Team Gleason has proudly participated in GiveNOLA Day since its inception,” said Paul Varisco, executive director of Team Gleason. “The generosity we see each year is astounding, and we’re looking forward to helping the Greater New Orleans Foundation reach its $5 million goal on GiveNOLA Day’s fifth anniversary.”
