Nonprofits are increasingly finding creative and effective ways to use social networks like Facebook and Twitter to raise money and develop relationships with potential supporters. The 2013 ENonprofits Benchmark Study provides an analysis of 55 nonprofits use of social media for communications, fundraising, advocacy. The survey results reveal that social media is a viable fundraising tool for some nonprofits and organizations are using social media to reach more supporters.
In a recent Learning Community hosted by the Foundation’s Organizational Effectiveness (OE) initiative, nonprofit leaders gathered to learn about fundraising with social media. Drawing on resources from the Chronicle of Philanthropy and Social Media for Nonprofits, participants discussed creating campaigns that inspire social network followers to share their organization’s message and solicit their friends. Materials from the Learning Community on Fundraising with Social Media can be found on the resource page.
