Joann Ricci joined the Greater New Orleans Foundation as vice president of organizational effectiveness in January 2011. Joann develops, designs and leads programs and learning activities to help build and strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of the area’s nonprofits to more successfully meet their missions.
Joann is also responsible for increasing the effectiveness of the Foundation’s programmatic and grantmaking work through evaluation, implementation of promising practices, networking, and strategy development.
Prior to joining the Greater New Orleans Foundation, Joann was founder and principal of the Ricci Group. Based in Chicago, her primary clients were nonprofits, foundations, and educational organizations and she worked collaboratively to increase their capacity, improve operations, and become a learning organization.
Joann served as director of broader impact at the Ball Foundation, a Chicago based family foundation working to change K-12 education and increased student achievement from 2000 to 2006. She developed and led the foundation’s community of practice strategy designed to network promising instructional, organizational, and leadership practices to support system reform. Joann was also responsible for the development and implementation of the Foundation’s learning initiative with grantees including designing conferences, workshops, learning visits, and other activities with partner school districts in four states.
Prior to that, Joann was program manager and interim executive director of a local education fund in Michigan, executive director of a community leadership program and had a fifteen year tenure in local arts development in Colorado and Michigan.
Joann graduated with a B.A. from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and holds a graduate certificate in evidence based coaching from Fielding University, Santa Barbara, CA. Joann serves on the board of the New Orleans Film Society, where she chairs the nominating committee.
